i have been walking this desert
for nearly 30 days
fighting shadows
dreaming of rain
pondering questions of time
hiding my soul from demons
and now that my blistered feet
are so near the oasis
i don’t want to stop yet
even if the peace i seek
is just a mirage

For a reason I can’t seem to figure out, the song “As We May Dream” has been stuck in my head for the past few days. It’s a strange, beautiful, and haunting tune on the soundtrack of an even odder film, “Da Sweet Blood of Jesus,” which seems to be a vampire movie but really isn’t. Anyway, hold my hand and listen with me.

I dreamt that I woke up
with you lying beside me.
You told me I was dreaming.
I cried myself to sleep
and when I woke up, you were still there.
You had been watching me sleep
and you said you would not leave.
Then the alarm clock went off.
I hit the button and just lay there,
the sound gone
but the buzz still coursing through me.
